What happens when maintenance gets skipped

The plugin update that broke everythingOne click updates on a live site are the most common cause of unplanned downtime. A proper website maintenance plan means updates are tested on a staging copy first. If something conflicts, it gets caught before it reaches your live site.
No backup when it matteredA backup stored on the same server as your site is not really a backup. If the server goes down, the backup goes with it. Offsite backups, on a proper schedule, are the only kind worth having.
The site that quietly degradedSecurity warnings in browsers, performance slipping, spam injections: these problems build up gradually when no one is keeping an eye on the site. Regular monitoring catches them early, before they affect your search rankings or cost you business.

Structured maintenance, not ad hoc fixes

A reactive approach to website maintenance costs more than a proactive one. Here is how a structured plan works.

01Site Audit

Before anything begins I look at the current state of your site: software versions, backup setup, security posture, any issues that need sorting. You get a clear picture of where things stand.

02Monthly Tasks

Updates are reviewed and tested before going live. Backups are scheduled and stored offsite. Security events are monitored and dealt with, not just recorded.

03Monitoring and Reporting

Your site is monitored for uptime, performance and security. Each month you get a report confirming what was done and anything worth knowing about.

Website Care and Support Plans

WordPress core, plugin and theme updates
Premium plugin licence coverage
Scheduled and tested backups
Security monitoring and response
Performance and uptime checks
Direct developer support for fixes and changes

Care plans start from £150 per month, depending on the level of support required. This covers ongoing technical management and the licensing costs of essential premium plugins. One off support is also available without a plan.

How Website Care Plans Work

Websites are not static. Software updates, security patches and compatibility changes all require ongoing attention. Without structured care, small issues compound into larger problems, and larger problems are more expensive to fix.

A care plan puts a structured process around your website. Updates are reviewed before they are applied, not just pushed automatically. Backups are scheduled and tested. Security events are monitored and acted on promptly.

Premium plugin licences are included in the monthly cost. Popular plugins like Gravity Forms, WP Rocket and Advanced Custom Fields typically cost £100 to £300 per year when bought independently. Rolling them into the plan removes a common hidden expense.

When something does need attention, you contact me directly. There is no ticket system and no account manager relaying the problem. The person you speak to is the person fixing it.

Website Care FAQs

What does a website care plan cost?

Plans start from £150 per month. The exact cost depends on the size and complexity of the site and the level of support required.

What is included in a care plan?

Core, plugin and theme updates, premium plugin licences, scheduled backups, security monitoring and performance checks, plus direct support for fixes and changes. The exact scope depends on your site.

Are premium plugin licences included?

Yes. Plugin licences are covered within the monthly cost where applicable, removing a common additional expense for site owners.

Can you look after a website built by another developer?

Yes. An initial audit is carried out to assess the current state of the site before anything begins.

Can I get support without committing to a plan?

Yes. One off support is available for occasional tasks: technical fixes, content updates, plugin issues and form problems. Ad hoc requests are typically responded to within 1 to 2 working days.

Do you work with non-WordPress websites?

Primarily WordPress, though care for other platforms can be discussed depending on the technology involved.
